Last chance to visit historic Holdenby House in 2023 this bank holiday weekend.

The iconic Holdenby House in Northamptonshire is set to open its doors to the public one last time for this year during this upcoming bank holiday weekend.

The historic house that was built for Queen Elizabeth I and where King Charles I was imprisoned I has witnessed countless chapters of history spanning several centuries and is a cornerstone of ‘The Rose of the Shires’ rich heritage. And this bank holiday Monday (28th August) visitors will have a final opportunity for 2023 to step back in time and immerse themselves in a bygone era.

Walking through the rooms of Holdenby House visitors will soon appreciate the craftsmanship, architecture and stories that make the house and gardens an integral piece of Northamptonshire’s historical tapestry. As well as the house being open, visitors can enjoy wandering around the Grade I gardens that were built to entertain Queen Elizabeth I along with the King Charles Walk where the Charles I took his daily walks whilst imprisoned.

Visitors can also get to admire Icarus Falconry’s magnificent collection of eagles, falcons, hawks, owls and vultures, watch flying displays on the lawns, and also enjoy meeting Norma the Hedgehog, Roxy the Fox and other members of English Wildlife menagerie.

The Old Stableyard tearoom will also be open with the vintage tearoom serving drinks and a variety of delicious homemade treats including their award-winning cakes.

Speaking about the weekend’s opening, Kerry Bate, Business Manager for Holdenby House said, “This isn’t just an opportunity to explore a house, it’s an invitation to relive history.
